Greenhouse Train Show and Bee’s Knee
The Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse is a state-of-the-art educational greenhouse overlooking the stunning Echo Bay in New Rochelle.
Begin the day at the Greenhouse where its annual Winter Train Show is on display. This charming exhibition features a winter wonderland with model trains running on four tracks, showcasing miniature cityscapes, mountains, and farm scenes. From there we’ll move into the gathering room where, Stephen Soltish, a 4-H educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension will present a lesson about the fascinating properties of beeswax – how it protects and supports the hive.
Next, Joyce Kent, one of LIRIC’s favorite lecturers, will present a lesson on how bees produce wax.
Afterwards we’ll get to craft our own beeswax wrap – an eco-friendly reusable alternative to plastic wrap.
Then enjoy a delicious, relaxed and companionable luncheon catered by Manny (from the Greek Orthodox Church)
You must get to the Hudson Park Greenhouse on your own (a 15 minute drive from Temple Israel). Ample parking is available and directions will be sent to you. The cost of the tour, including lunch and materials is $40. You must respond before January 10th because only 30 slots are available.
